Facilitating Attuned Interactions (FAN) (2022 – present). Designed and implemented external evaluation of FAN across service settings. Conducted a meta-synthesis of qualitative findings to date on FAN. Provided ongoing consultation to Linda Gilkerson and the FAN team on strategic planning, scaling, evaluation, fundraising, and partnership development; Erikson Institute’s Fussy Baby Network.

Integrating Parenting Skills into a Community of Care for Children Exposed to Trauma: Training in PC-CARE and PC-CARE Toolbox (2021 – present) – Evaluator. Led a mixed method evaluation for a Category II site of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network providing a 6-session dyadic treatment program to families interested in improving caregiver-child relationships and new child behavior management strategies for children, ages 1 to 10 years; SAMHSA/NCTSN contractor to University of California Davis School of Medicine.

First Steps for Families and Children (2021 – present) – Technical Assistance. Conducted a needs and readiness assessment and provided ongoing consultation on trauma-informed care, continuous quality improvement (CQI), and program evaluation to a child welfare support and stabilization program for children and families involved in the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families; Enable Inc., Taunton, MA.

Resilience through Relationships Center (2020 – present) – Director of evaluation. Led a mixed method evaluation of a Category 2 National Child Traumatic Stress Network site supporting children (birth to age 21) and their parents in the context of parenting difficulties (e.g., parental substance abuse and mental illness; child maltreatment; intergenerational trauma); SAMHSA/NCTSN, sub to University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Restricting Abortion Access (2022) – Subject Matter Expert/Author. Conducted a literature review on the consequences of restricting access to abortion; contract with Zero to Three.

Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Technical Assistance Center (2022) – Subject Matter Expert/Author. Developed public health messaging on the benefits of investing in infant and early childhood mental health; SAMHSA, consultant to Georgetown University and Zero to Three.

Children’s Bureau Learning and Coordination Center: Parental Depression (2021-’22) – Subject Matter Expert/Trainer/Author. Translated research and practice on supporting families experiencing parental depression, including written materials, slide decks, and videos with researchers, practitioners, and parents; Children’s Bureau, Office on Child Abuse & Neglect, Administration for Children & Families, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Office of Head Start’s National Center on Parent, Family and Community Engagement (2020 – ’24) – Co-PI (2020 - ‘21). Provided training and technical assistance to Head Start and Early Head Start programs, staff, and families on fully engaging families and communities in supporting the wellbeing and school readiness of young children; HHS/ACF/OHS, sub to Start Early.

Office of Head Start’s National Center on Health, Behavioral Health, and Safety (2020 – ’24) – Evaluator (2020 - ‘21). Conducted a mixed method evaluation, including a performance and outcome innovation evaluation for a national training and technical assistance center for Head Start and Early Head Start programs, staff, and families; sub to Educational Development Center (EDC)/Georgetown University.

Child Trauma Training Center (CTTC) (2016 – ‘21) – Evaluator. Helping Youth Thrive After Natural Disasters (2019 – ‘21) – PI. Developed a toolkit for child welfare and juvenile justice agencies to support resilience and healing to trauma from exposure to natural disasters; Annie E. Casey Foundation.

An Ecological Systems Approach to the Investigation of Child Neglect in Early Head Start (2016 – ‘19) – Co-PI. Led a 14-state randomized controlled trial study of resilience to child neglect among Early Head Start participants, including qualitative and quantitative analyses and social network analysis; HHS/ACF/CB, sub to Brazelton Touchpoints Center.

Investigating What First-Time Parents Know and Want to Know about Child Development as a Way to Advance Knowledge in the Early Childhood Field (2017 – ‘18) – Co-PI. Led a qualitative study of what first-time parents of young children (birth to age 2) know and want to know about parenting and child development, with a focus on variation by race, ethnicity, gender, and geographical location; Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Project LAUNCH (2016 – ’18) – PI. Developed indicators of social-emotional wellbeing in early childhood using a person-in-context, ecological model, piloted the indicators with grantee evaluations, and provided training and technical assistance to support their use in grantee evaluations; SAMHSA.

Research, Training, and Technical Assistance for the National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (NCPFCE) (2015 – ‘20) – TA content developer. Conducted research and developed training and technical assistance for products supporting parent, family, and community engagement (PFCE) in Head Start and child care programs, including leading the development of PFCE competencies for early childhood professionals; ACF/HHS/OHS/OCC, sub to Brazelton Touchpoints Center.

Trauma Systems Therapy-Foster Care (TST-FC) (2015 – ‘18) – PI. Conducted a mixed method implementation and outcomes study of a trauma training in child welfare for foster parents, caseworks, and clinicians implemented in two states; Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Testing the efficacy of Early Head Start in Prevention Child Maltreatment (2013 – ‘17) –PD. Conducted a 14-state, randomized controlled trial study on the impact of Early Head Start on child welfare involvement among children and families in Early Head Start; HHS/CDC, sub to Portland State University.

Evaluation of Tribal Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (TMIECHV) (2012 – ‘17) – Evaluation PD. Mixed method implementation and outcome study of a doula home visiting program developed and implemented by a Native American community; HHS/HRSA/MCHB and HHS/ACF/OCC, sub to Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Implementation and Outcome Evaluation of the Massachusetts Child Trauma Project (MCTP) (2011 – ‘17) – Director of Research and Evaluation. Led a randomized controlled trial study of first-year outcomes of a statewide home visiting program for young parents (<21 years) and their infants; Pew Center for the States.
